Small Computer Desk for Home Office

Top Small Desk

Small Computer Desk For Home Office

Pros

  • Incredibly sleek – fits any home office
  • Easy to put together (15 minutes max)
  • Durable & sturdy as hell
  • Tremendous value for money

Cons

  • Packaging is a bit of a mess

You’d expect a company named “Office Oasis” to create one heck of a home office desk. And you’d be right on the money…

They over-deliver on your expectations (which is pretty rare these days).

  • It’s easy enough to set up that even the clumsiest person in the world would set this up in 15 minutes MAX.
  • It’s sleek enough to satisfy those who “just need a good desk”, as well as those interior design freaks who need every piece of furniture to fit.
  • It’s strong enough that you can stand on it (unless you’re a sumo wrestler, in which case you should be careful). Should you stand on it? Probably not (don’t you blame me if you fall and break a limb!)
  • It’s small enough to fit any small home office space and sleek enough to buy it even if you have a large office.

Note: In fact, if you’ll read the reviews, you’ll quickly notice that a lot of people purchase this as a backup desk (because it’s cheap, so why the hell not), and they quickly decide “OK, I guess I should move this desk into my home office”.

I tried hard looking for flaws in this excellent computer desk and failed miserably (except for the packaging, but that’s just me being a hardass).

So, ladies and gentlemen… I’m proud to present: our “Top Small Desk” award winner!

Zinus Port Small Home Office Computer Desk (Espresso)

Zinus Port Small Home Office Computer Desk Espresso

Pros

  • Cool extra features: side storage area, cable manager and monitor stand
  • Sexy look (Espresso finish)
  • Minimalistic and space efficient

Cons

  • The monitor stand is a little flimsy (but it’s free, so…)

Let me tell you – Office Oasis’ small home office desk is one tough desk to compete with. They’ve been one of the most popular small home office desks for many years, and rightfully so.

But recently, Zinus joined the party… and they’re definitely not willing to give up without a fight.

Zinus created a magnificent home office desk for small spaces that gives Office Oasis a run for their money.

In fact, their desk is quite unique.

And no, I’m not talking about the remarkable Espresso finished surface area (although that’s pretty damn unique). I’m talking about the interesting features…

Features like:

  • Extra storage area on the side, which you can use to keep some office essentials or to even hang your bag.
  • A cable manager so you don’t end up with a mess with all those cables lying around in the back.
  • A monitor stand (it’s a bit wobbly, but you get it for free, so I’ll “forgive” that)

That’s quite smart, generous, AND clearly an advantage over Office Oasis’ desk.

Plus, it’s also cheaper – so if the price is a deal-breaker, then this is a pretty phenomenal choice.

Ameriwood Home Haven Retro Desk

Ameriwood Home Haven Retro Desk

Pros

  • Stylish retro design
  • Fits anywhere in the house (including the bedroom)
  • Includes desk riser (for pictures, decor or office supplies)
  • Extremely cheap

Cons

  • Not real wood (cheap materials in general)
  • Needs patience when setting up

“You get what you pay for”.

Every time someone says that to me I want to beat them with a stick.

Why? Because usually when people say it they mean it in a condescending “I told you so” fashion.

So allow me to push back on that idea for a sec…

Yes, when you pay less money for something, usually there’s a certain sacrifice you have to make.

The question is NOT whether there is a sacrifice, the question is what the sacrifice is, and whether or not you’re willing to live with it.

Makes sense so far? Great.

Now, with that in mind, let’s have a look at Ameriwood’s small home office desk and ask ourselves a couple of key questions:

  • Is this desk any good?
  • Is this the best home office desk in the world?
  • Is it affordable? Hell yes.
  • Is the quality any good? The materials are OK. They’re pretty cheap, but overall they stand the test of time.
  • How hard is it to build? Not the easiest. But the question is: are you willing to spend less money and a little more time building it?
  • Is it a good deal? Damn straight.

There you have it. This is the no b.s version of what you’re “sacrificing” when you get a cheap home office desk (or anything for that matter).

Now, ask yourself: are you willing to live with it?

Sauder Beginnings Corner Computer Desk

Sauder Beginnings Corner Computer Desk

Pros

  • Modest design
  • Lots of room under the desk for books
  • Great for tight spaces
  • Reliable company & customer support

Cons

  • Scratches easily
  • A bit expensive

If you read my top home office desks article, then the name “Sauder” probably rings a bell. They’ve got a few “big shot” desks that earned a spot in the article.

But you’re not looking for “big shot” desks, you’re looking for “small shot” desks, at least in size.

Well, there’s no surprise that they have a representative in this article too.

{Side Rant} Sauder doesn’t just deserve a place in this article because of this individual desk… Sauder deserves a place on this list because of Sauder.
They’re a tremendous company with fabulous customer support.
Because let’s face it – sometimes sh*t happens: packages get damaged, shipping gets delayed, parts are missing…
But thankfully, there’s a voice to talk to with Sauder (as opposed to many other companies who couldn’t care less).
{End side rant…}

OK, back to the desk…

In short (pun intended), it’s small enough to fit the tightest corners in your house, yet still has a generous amount of space for you to go all “mad scientist” with it.

The keyboard drawer is pretty convenient, and the shelves under the desk are VERY helpful. They help you reduce the clutter that’s going on top of your desk (you know, when you’re in “mad scientist” mode).

Tip: Assembling it isn’t all that complicated – it’s kind of “IKEA style”. Just stay patient, follow the instructions properly and you’ll be golden.

Focus – that’s the name of the game, and with Sauder’s clean and modest design – you’re able to focus on what’s truly important: Getting sh*t done.

Nathan Home Wooden Home Office Computer Desk

Little Miss Small Desk

Nathan Home Wooden Home Office Computer Desk

Pros

  • Extra storage – 2 large compartments to store stuff
  • Quick & easy to assemble (15 minutes and you’re done)
  • Multi-purpose
  • Sturdy & lasts for a long time
  • Very attractive

Cons

  • Not cheap

I can go on and on about how small, strong and storage-rich this stunning desk is. But that would only tell half the story (and it’s not even the better half).

Here’s the better half of the story:

When I first saw this gorgeous desk, I instantly knew it’s going to be an award-winning desk… the only question was which award?

I couldn’t just give it a “Prettiest Desk” award. That’s pretty lame, and quite frankly doesn’t do it justice.

Later that day, I read an article about the new “Miss America”… then, it hit me!

“What if I give it the Little Miss Small Desk award?”

(a combination of “Miss America” + “Little Miss Sunshine”)

Boom!

Note: Needless to say, I don’t even remember what that damn article about “Miss America” was about. But hey, thanks for the inspiration!

There’s a cool award that’s totally worthy.

Now, you might be wondering: “OK, I get that it’s beautiful. But we can’t just judge the book by its cover”.

Right you are! Judging a desk solely on its looks is a recipe for disaster.

So let’s look at the rest of it, shall we?

Thankfully, this small, contemporary home office desk isn’t just super attractive. It’s also super strong and super useful (a Superdesk, if you will).

How useful? Well, let’s have a look:

  1. It’s multi-purpose, which means you can use it in many different ways, such as a coffee table, a living room table, or even to change your baby’s diapers… get creative!
  2. Don’t get the size fool you. This desk has a LOT of space. And I’m not just talking about the surface area… I’m talking about the 2 large compartments you can use to store your laptop, books or any other material.
  3. Finally – it’s “lazy-friendly”. In just 15 minutes of “work”, it’ll stand strong and look all beautiful and charming.

Wooden Computer Writing Desk for Home Office + 2 Open Tiers Shelves

Wooden Computer Writing Desk For Home Office 2 Open Tiers Shelves

Pros

  • Cute desk
  • Lots of space + extra adjustable side shelves

Cons

  • Hard to put together (Lacks instructions)
  • Prone to scratches

This is one adorable looking desk.

Not only is it small, cute and surprisingly comfortable.

The side shelves are very handy too: you can store all sorts of books, desk accessories and other important office stuff, without cluttering your desk surface area.

Keep in mind: The shelves are located on the right side of the desk, NOT the left side like in the picture.

That being said – this desk doesn’t come with instructions – so assembling it can be a HUGE pain in the *ss if you don’t know what you’re doing.

All in all, it’s a cute desk… But to be honest, there are other small desks that are just as cute, just as cheap – but better in quality.

Let me put it this way: If I was looking for a new small home office desk, this wouldn’t be my first choice (just one man’s opinion).

Crank Adjustable Sit to Stand Up Desk with Heavy Duty Steel Frame

Crank Adjustable Sit To Stand Up Desk With Heavy Duty Steel Frame

Pros

  • Exceptional for tall people
  • Mobile – Rock N’ “Roll”!
  • Ergonomically designed
  • Gorgeous

Cons

  • Unclear installation instructions

Sure, this home office desk is small. But that’s not the main reason it made the list.

Care to take a guess what it was that got it here?

Two words: standing desk.

They say “sitting is the new smoking“, and there’s something to that… We spend most of our days sitting in front of the computer, barely moving or stretching our bodies.

You don’t need to be a doctor or physiotherapist to know that sitting for 10+ hours a day is not good for your health.

That’s why I felt obligated to include a standing home office desk. But since I’m very picky, I needed more than “just another standing desk” to convince me to write about it – and my oh my does this desk fit the bill:

  1. The desk is adjustable: you can adjust it easily to fit your needs.
  2. The desk is ergonomic: your lower back will appreciate that.
  3. The desk is mobile: Take a close look at the picture… notice the wheels? You can literally roll the desk and work from anywhere you want.

Tip: If you look at some of the popular standing desks out there, you’ll quickly notice that almost all of them share one major flaw: they don’t adjust far enough for tall people (over 6.0). This is one of the few famous standing desks that overcome that problem.

Eminem had a famous line in the 90’s: “Will the real Slim Shady, please stand up!”

These days, I think this is solid advice for every one of us. It’s time we all stand up every once in a while, and this adjustable home office desk is a great way to force ourselves to get our blood flowing.

Tip: You can even get a foldable bookcase and have a full-on floating home office… how cool is that?

Modern Computer & Study Desk + Folding Laptop Table for Home Office

Top Budget Desk

Modern Computer Study Desk Folding Laptop Table For Home Office

Pros

  • Small & cozy – great for small places
  • Foldable
  • Great customer support
  • Very cheap

Cons

  • Finish is scratch-prone
  • Instructions aren’t clear – assembling it can be a pain

Work-life balance?

How about work-picnic balance? Sound better?

Well, it should be… because this desk is both foldable and small enough to carry with you when you’re headed for nature.

How cool is that?

Wait till you see how much it costs (hint: crazy cheap)…

Keep in mind: That said, the assembly instructions aren’t that clear. So If you need help assembling this desk, ask the seller to send you a video on how to assemble it. It will save you hours of needless frustration.

This cute foldable desk is another good example where the phrase “You get what you pay for” simply doesn’t apply.

You get a LOT more than you pay for, that’s for sure…

Prepac Wall Mounted Floating Desk + Storage

Prepac Wall Mounted Floating Desk Storage

Pros

  • Side compartments + shelves = lots of storage space
  • Modern & stylish look
  • Sturdy
  • Space-efficient (perfect for small spaces)

Cons

  • Hard to install
  • A pain to adjust (it’s wall-mounted)

With all these desks standing in this article, I thought it would be refreshing to include a desk that is everything but a standing desk:

… Instead of standing → it floats.

… Instead of being mobile → it’s wall mounted.

… Instead of taking floor space → well, it doesn’t

The fact that this desk mounts on the wall means you’ll be clearing up some space on the floor. That’s invaluable for small rooms…

Granted, It’ll probably take you some time to set up… but once you do – it’s a “set it and forget it kind of thing”.

If you’ve got a dedicated workspace you’d like to use and you’re not planning to move anywhere anytime soon, then this wall-mounted desk is an interesting idea worth exploring.

Simple Living Wood Corner Computer Desk (Antique White)

Simple Living Wood Corner Computer Desk Antique White

Pros

  • Very small & convenient (barely takes up room)
  • Clean & elegant design
  • Perfect for small apartments

Cons

  • Scratches easily
  • Assembly takes some effort
  • Not exactly white (more like creme color)

Simple Living’s small corner computer desk is just that – simple. But I mean that in a good way:

  • It’s compact and barely takes up any space
  • No special gimmicks – a clean and simple design
  • Can fit any corner – your bedroom, kitchen or even basement

Tip: It does scratch easy. So it might be a good idea to cover your desk with something, especially if you have little kids running around.

So if you haven’t got a lot of extra space in your home, but could desperately use a little corner space to do some emailing, finish that report or complete that draft you’ve been working on –  this compact home office desk can be a lovely fit.

Bonus: Convenience Concepts Designs2Go Mission Desk

Top Petite Desk

Convenience Concepts Designs2go Mission Desk

Pros

  • TINY desk – fits anywhere you could imagine
  • Outstanding craftsmanship
  • Securely packaged
  • Assembly is a breeze

Cons

  • Some might say it’s “too small”
  • No hole for cables

I wasn’t planning on including another desk, but I just couldn’t afford to pass this one.

This cute oak desk is only 26 inches long (!) and looks like something taken straight from the Smurfs.  So if by any chance you found any of the other small home office desks too big (which I doubt), then there’s no chance in hell this desk isn’t going to fit even the smallest area.

I mean, you could probably fit it in your shower and “multitask”, if you know what I mean (not saying you should).

Assembling it is a piece of cake: it’s mostly done for you, all you need is to get a Phillips screwdriver and “lego” the pieces together.

The quality of this computer desk is pretty amazing, and it’s surprisingly sturdy (even though it might look flimsy in the picture).

Tip: Don’t push it though (literally). It’s still a tiny desk so you better not have a jumping contest on it.

Note: The color, on the other hand, is up for debate. It’s more of a personal taste. You’ll see some people saying they hate it, and some people saying they absolutely love it… You be the judge.

If you thought the home office desks in this article were small, then this desk deserves to be featured in Guinness’ book of world records for the smallest & most convenient home office desks.

But since that’s not going to happen anytime soon, the least I could do is to give it our very own award – the “Top Petite Desk”. I think they deserve it, don’t you think? And yes, this award was made especially for this desk. It’s the first (and probably last) time I ever gave this award

It’s hard enough to find a home office desk that looks good, fits small places and is cheap. When you throw “foldable” into that mix – you don’t ask a lot of questions… You just give it an award. Because let me tell you – that’s awfully rare…

Top Petite Desk: Convenience Concepts Designs2Go Mission Desk

Only one way to summarize this tiny amazingly crafted small home office desk: “Good things come in small packages.”

Conclusion

Told you size is overrated.

These small home office desks are large enough for you to work productively and small enough to fit in small spaces in your home: whether it’s your home office, bedroom or even your bathroom (although you probably already got an “office” there, if you know what I mean).

So there you go – all you’ve got to do now is scroll back up, order your favorite home office desk (if you haven’t already), and finally – get to work!

With your brand new desk, you haven’t got any more excuses 🙂

    Awesome post!

This was extremely helpful… I was having a hard time finding a small desk that could fit my tiny bedroom.

Ameriwood fits perfectly (and it was pretty easy to put together)
